چکیده

We present the first 1.3 mm (230 GHz) very long baseline interferometry model image of an AGN jet using closure phase techniques with a four-element array. The model image of the quasar 1924-292 was obtained with four telescopes at three observatories: the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope (JCMT) on Mauna Kea in Hawaii, the Arizona Radio Observatory’s Submillimeter Telescope (SMT) in Arizona, and 1Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Haystack Observatory, Route 40, Westford, MA 01886, USA 2Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, 60 Garden St., Cambridge, MA 02138, USA 3University of California Berkeley, Dept. of Astronomy, Radio Astronomy Laboratory, 601 Campbell Hall, Berkeley, CA 94720-3411, USA 4Arizona Radio Observatory, Steward Observatory, University of Arizona, 933 North Cherry Ave., Tucson, AZ 85721-0065, USA 5James Clerk Maxwell Telescope, Joint Astronomy Centre, 660 North A’ohoku Place, University Park, Hilo, HI 96720, USA 6Institute of Astronomy and Astrophysics, Academia Sinica, P.O. The Event Horizon of M87

The M 6 109 × ⊙ supermassive black hole at the center of the giant elliptical galaxy M87 powers a relativistic jet. Observations at millimeter wavelengths with the Event Horizon Telescope have localized the emission from the base of this jet to angular scales comparable to the putative black hole horizon. The jet might be powered directly by an accretion disk or by electromagnetic extraction of...

Probing the Magnetic Field Structure in Sgr A* on Black Hole Horizon Scales with Polarized Radiative Transfer Simulations

Magnetic fields are believed to drive accretion and relativistic jets in black hole accretion systems, but the magnetic field structure that controls these phenomena remains uncertain. We perform general relativistic (GR) polarized radiative transfer of time-dependent three-dimensional GR magnetohydrodynamical simulations to model thermal synchrotron emission from the Galactic Center source Sag...

Numerical Investigation on Slot air Jet impingement Heat Transfer between Horizontal Concentric Circular Cylinders

A numerical study has been carried out for slot air jet impingement cooling of horizontal concentric circular cylinders. The slot air jet is situated at the symmetry line of a horizontal cylinder along the gravity vector and impinges on the bottom of the outer cylinder which is designated as θ=0°. The outer cylinder is partially opened at the top with a width of W=30mm and is kept at constant t...

Event Horizon Telescope Evidence for Alignment of the Black Hole in the Center of the Milky Way with the Inner Stellar Disk

Observations of the black hole in the center of the Milky Way with the Event Horizon Telescope at 1.3 mm have revealed a size of the emitting region that is smaller than the size of the black-hole shadow. This can be reconciled with the spectral properties of the source, if the accretion flow is seen at a relatively high inclination (50◦–60◦). Such an inclination makes the angular momentum of t...

Zooming towards the Event Horizon - mm-VLBI today and tomorrow

Global VLBI imaging at millimeter and sub-millimeter wavelengths overcomes the opacity barrier of synchrotron self-absorption in Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) and opens the direct view into sub-pc scale regions not accessible before. Since AGN variability is more pronounced at short millimeter wavelength, mm-VLBI can reveal structural changes in very early stages after outbursts. When combined w...
